Bio:
John Ciardi (1916-1986), the poet and translator, was the author of more than thirty books of poetry, including children’s verse, and notable for both his translation of Dante’s Divine Comedy and his textbook on poetic analysis, How Does a Poem Mean? (1959). The longtime poetry editor at the Saturday Review, Ciardi also served as lecturer and director of the Breadloaf Writers’ Conference.
